Hannes Wettstein was one of the most innovative and influential designers in Switzerland. Born in 1958 in Ascona Switzerland, Wettstein completed an apprenticeship as a structural engineering draughtsman and then trained himself as a designer and architect. He was fascinated by technological developments as well as art history and architecture; and somewhat alchemical and ingenious, his unique way of developing ideas never disappeared. Hannes Wettstein designed elegant and perfect objects for daily use that maintained their identity and remained timeless even in the changing flow of fashion. He founded his own studio, Studio Hannes Wettstein, in 1991. In addition he was a lecturer at the ETH of Zurich, and taught at the Hochschule fur Gestaltung in Karlsruhe. He passed away in 2008 from cancer.
Pallucco, founded in 1986, is driven by design, research and communication. As a design company, Pallucco focuses on creativity, materials and processes, allowing its clients to create a setting that is unique and instantly recognizable - not lacklustre and indistinguishable from a thousand others. Their success has been forged in part due to some classic products: the bookcase designed by Wettstein, and the great Fortuny and Papiro floor lamps.
